Thanks for stopping by!
DD Dagger mixes genres. And Allyson's gift is to shape shift - So it's hard to describe! But its saucy, sometimes dark, melodic, spacey, with a healthy dose of blues - this week. Allyson is the main songwriter but gets help arranging from the band and likes to collaborate with her gifted friends, most notably Raindogg; her favorite songwriting partner who lives in Brooklyn. He wrote the music for Wishing Well and Allyson and the band arranged it. He also produced several videos including Brooklyn Girls, Erodica, and two forthcoming videos: Wishing Well and Broken Arrow.
Allyson met all of her current band members from different bands she has played in over the years. She met Tyler the bass player in Minor Mishap Marching Band: (he is fluent on trumpet as well). Chris in the Cinematic Symphony - (he is a trained percussionist from North Texas) and Charles on guitar while the two were playing in Los Coast - Charles played pedal steel in that band. Allyson is most fluent on saxophone- But enjoys singing, writing and currently studies classical piano.
The band's Influences are ubiquitous. Allyson: Eartha Kitt // Chris: whatever's complicated and in 7/8 . Charles: Americana a la the Grateful Dead and J.J. Cale, Tyler: Reggae is his favorite - but there is always something new on in the band room when they set up at his house to rehearse.
The band has been around for more than a decade! Released 3 full length albums and a bunch of singles. Wishing Well is one of three singles that will be released this quarter produced by Charles Godfree - IE Scary American Studio. He is a talented, hard driving producer with a drummers background and a conductors ear.
The songs will be released on Loop Discos - located in Porto Allegre, Brazil. How did DD Dagger become the first American to be on the prolific Brazilian record label? Friends of Friends, of course! With that connection Allyson has gone to Brazil several times to record and play; and the band is set to tour there next November.
DD Dagger is at its heart a live band - performance is king. But recording is paramount too - they would like to consider themselves talented on stage AND in the studio. The band has had a long evolution; But check out these underground hits as a sampler:
Crimson and Clover - off "Femmie Auteur" - collaboration with film score composer Mark Orton
Falls Apart - off "Radixxx" - produced by Mike McCarthy
Day Bowie Died off "Lone Wolf Meets the Underdog" - with an incredible video by Todd V. Wolfson
Fantasma: a duet composed with Sao Paulo producer and songwriter Bruno Serroni
